Kerttuli Uusimies / iluttrek is a London-based installation artist with a background in psychology, illustration and performance. Working across mediums from sound, moving image and textiles to ceramics, she explores how human and more-than-human bodies mirror and respond to one another and their environment, attentive to the overlaps in these experiences. “Venn diagrams are my favourite type of diagram: I believe in the uniting power of shared attributes and get really excited about coming across unexpected connections.” This focus on intersections is woven throughout Uusimies’ work, from larger installations that stage material encounters to small illustrations that capture shared experiences.
Play remains central to her approach; as a way to grasp even the touchier topics with a sense of curiosity and humour. Uusimies also facilitates creative workshops, inviting others into tactile, playful and reflective processes that mirror her own.

Kerttuli is currently studying MA in Art & Ecology at Goldsmiths, University of London, also working as the program's junior fellow.
